![]() ![]() And the media's constant drumming of Simone being GOAT is too much. It just increased Russia's winning score. With Russia hitting all three floor routines, the fall from Chiles really didn't matter. But far too many errors from the US today. Sill, if someone told me that Russia could fall twice on beam and still beat even a Simone-less team, I wouldn't have believed it. They benefited from the Olympics being a year later so that Listunova and Urazova could be on the team, pumping up their scores closer to the US than they'd been in the past. She's still incredible, but at 24 the type of pounding her body has taken leads to inevitable injuries.Īlso, the media hype has been ridiculous. I don't know about her chances for the rest of these games. And then Jordyn performed a bit under her capability and didn't even get to the All Around final which Gabby Douglas won. She came in as defending World All Around Champion but had a bone fracture somewhere on her leg or foot, I can't remember. I've been telling my partner since the US Championships and Olympic trials that Simone looked not quite herself and I suspected she was nursing an injury. There are second chances beyond quitting and failing, not so much after death. Good people would be more upset if you died than if you quit/failed. for anyone reading, quitting and failing is much better than killing yourself. The fact that Simone put herself before other peoples' thoughts of her is brave and FUCK everyone who thinks otherwise. Simone has the wisdom and bravery to give herself the grace to fail and to quit for the sake of her well being. And so many of my peers have had to pay for this toxic mindset with their lives. Boomers wonder why kids are killing themselves, and are so "fragile." Uh maybe its because if you can't quit or you can't fail the only way out of that pressure cooker is to kill yourself. I didn't understand that dying for a 4.0 GPA wasn't worth it. One person from each grade at my tiny private school with maximum 50 in a class, has killed themselves. And four people did since I've graduated. 100% means giving your life for something and I almost did. As a little girl, I interpreted 100% to mean to the death. I grew up in very competitive private schools focused on excellence. This type of pressure leads people to kill themselves. No one knows what is right for her except her. No one is going to take care of Simone Biles like Simone Biles. If selfish means looking out for yourself then good. Then some people are calling her selfish. Sometimes a medal and a title are just not worth screwing up your mental health. People calling her a coward or a "quitter." Newsflash, quitting is sometimes a good thing.
